Whether they were up on a roof tearing out old tar paper or nailing in new shingles or under the floor boards of a home shoring up timbers, the volunteers of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church’s Salkiehatchie-Wateree Camp mission spent a week wiping sweat from their brows with big smiles on their faces. For those who participate in the Salkiehatchie mission program, the week spent repairing houses in the heat of the summer is about far more than just doing volunteer construction work. It’s a way to connect with each other, with the community, with the better sides of themselves, and with the love of God.
