October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month and families across the state and nation will be celebrating individuals with Down Syndrome at the Buddy Walk. The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome and to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month. This year, the Buddy Walk for the Midlands will be held in Columbia at Sesquicentennial State Park on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. This is a free event for family and friends to come out and celebrate the life of a special buddy and all the milestones he or she has overcome.
