The Historic Camden Shag Club is off to another great start this year. It is a strong, independent, friendly and compassionate club. Its goal is to create a strong Junior Shag Program in the area and to do worthwhile projects to help those in need. Members believe it is important to have a strong Junior Shag Program in order to keep the music and dance alive. The Shag is the State Dance for South Carolina. The club has created a scholarship program to encourage students to participate in learning the dance and enjoy clean, wholesome fun. The first scholarships were awarded last year and are completely funded for 2019. For more information on the scholarship program inquire by writing to The Historic Camden Shag Club, P.O. Box 423, Camden, SC 29021 or email email@example.com.
Upcoming events for The Historic Camden Shag Club include a satellite operation starting in Elgin in February at Blaney’s Wings & Grill on Thursday evenings. Members encourage those living in Lugoff, Elgin and northeast Columbia to come out Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. and enjoy the music and dance. This will begin Feb. 7.
On Feb. 12 at the Shrine Club the club will have its Valentine’s Party starting at 7 p.m. It will be a great evening of music and dance so bring your Valentine. Some of the members of some of the best Beach Bands in South Carolina and North Carolina will be providing the music and entertainment along with our DJ, Chuck Carland. This event is free to all.
We will have some of the Junior Shaggers from time to time showing up at Blaney’s Wings & Grill and the Shrine Club. One of the couples that has danced many times at our club and also won the “October Shag Fest” -- Conrad Haas, 17, and Mattie Price, 15 -- will be dancing in the Junior Shag II Nationals Competition March 7-9.
Come out and visit with a great group of members. Our shag lessons and line dance lessons are always free.
