Mr. and Mrs. Baxley celebrate 70th wedding anniversary

Wednesday marks an extraordinary milestone for Daniel Carlyle Baxley and his wife Kathryn (Kitty) of Camden, S.C. On July 14, 2018, the couple will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with a family party at the home of their son Charles and his wife Judy Baxley in Lugoff, S.C.

The couple married in a traditional Lutheran ceremony surrounded by family and friends on July 18, 1948, at Kathryn’s childhood home in Little Mountain. Kathryn’s uncle, the Rev. Paul G. McCullough, officiated. Kathryn is the daughter of Burke Miller and Annie Rast Wise. Daniel is the son of Daniel Edward and Lola Huntley Baxley of Kershaw.

Since their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Baxley have been active members of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, held fruitful careers, and traveled the world. However, their greatest adventure has been witnessing and nurturing the growth of their beloved family.

The couple have four children, Lynn, Charles, Ann and Danny; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and eight special in-laws. Lynn Baxley and her husband, Douglas Doster live in Cameron, S.C. Their children are Richard Potter and his wife, Rebekah, and their two sons, Baxley Potter and Burke Potter, of Greenville, S.C.; Brantley Doster; Ann Lynn Doster, married to Christian; and Caroline Baxley, married to Geoffrey Chambers and mother to Skye Chambers. Ann Baxley lives in Richmond, Va., with her husband, Dr. Richard Carpenter. They are the parents of Kathryn Carpenter and Ann Elizabeth Carpenter of Winchester, Va. Daniel Carlyle Baxley Jr. married Dorothy Mattow and resides in Staunton, Va.; they have two children, Elizabeth Baxley, married to Michael Crowder of Farmville, Va., and Wilson Baxley.
