An annual event like no other -- Yakking on the River -- returns Saturday to the Wateree River.

Boat launches (kayaks only) will start from the Wateree Dam, 1600 Tail Race Road, and ending at the new Wateree River Park.

A complimentary lunch will be served to participants upon arriving that new park’s landing. There will be a complimentary shuttle service to return to the dam, with the last shuttle leaving at 2 p.m. Any kayakers arriving at the new park after 2 p.m. will be responsible for their own transportation.

A limited number of complimentary kayaks will be available for use or you can bring your own kayak. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. No alcohol is permitted, and kayakers must wear a life jacket, have a whistle and sign a waiver to participate.

Pre-registration is required. Visit the Kershaw County Parks and Recreation office or its website to obtain paperwork.
