The victory gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the second round best-of-five state American Legion playoffs. game two is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Riley Park with game three being played in Camden at 7 p.m. In winning their second consecutive series opener in extra frames, Post 17 scored two runs in each of the first threee innings to jump to a 6-0 lead while chasing P15 starter Lathan Todd from the box after two innings in which the right-hander threw 58 pitches with 38 of those coming in the first inning. Sumter chipped away at the deficit and took an 8-7 lead by scoring two runs in the sixth.
