Former Camden High and current Kershaw County American Legion Post 17 pitcher Will Abbott’s summertime all-star team plans have changed.
Abbott was originally selected to be playing in this weekend’s South Carolina North-South All-Star weekend games in Myrtle Beach. Those plans were scrapped last week when a pitcher with the South Carolina Select squad was unable to fulfill his obligations leaving a spot on the roster to be filled. That slot went to Abbott.
The South Carolina Select Team will play a three-game series against their counterparts from North Carolina at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, N.C., on June 15-16.
Abbott will be joined on the Palmetto State squad by Post 17 teammate and A.C. Flora catcher Josh Hernandez. Both players are expected to miss Post 17’s games with Sumter next Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Abbott, who is signed to play baseball at the Citadel next season, finished with a 6-5 record for Camden High this past season. He threw 72.3 innings and fanned 78 batters while issuing just 28 walks. He pitched to a 1.84 earned run average while opposing batters hit just .160 against him.
