All six KC teams will travel to state tourney openers

It is time to crank up the buses for the post-season.
All six Kershaw County high school baseball and softball teams will take to the state’s highways and byways for the first round of state tournament play which opens with district action this week.
Due to scheduling conflicts and proms, some of the dates and game times have been changed including that for the Lugoff-Elgin softball team’s first round encounter at Carolina Forest, which will be played tonight at 7 p.m.
Here are the first and second round scenarios for each program. (Note: Third round elimination games will be played next Monday with district championship play slated for next Wednesday.)

Baseball

Camden: The Bulldogs, the third-place team in Region 6-AAA, will travel to meet Region 5 runner-up Chapin at 7 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the District 6 tournament.
The other half of the bracket has Region 6 runner-up Darlington playing host to Dreher, the fourth-place finisher in Region 5.
If CHS plays Darlington in second round play, the game will be at Darlington at noon on Saturday. If it is CHS vs. Dreher, the game will be played at American Legion Park in Camden on Saturday at a yet-to-be-determined time.

Lugoff-Elgin: The Demons, the third-place team from Region 4, will travel to take on Region 5 champion Lexington at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the first round of the District 1 tournament.
The other half of the bracket has Region 7 runner-up James Island hosting West Florence, which finished third in Region 6.
The Demons have a chance to return home for game two. If L-E plays West Florence, the game will be at L-E’s Optimist Field at 2 p.m. Saturday. If it is L-E vs. James Island, the game will be played Friday at 7 p.m. at James Island.

North Central: The Knights, the fourth-place finisher in Region 3-A, will travel to meet Region 4 champion Fox Creek at 7 p.m. Thursday in a game to be played at the Riverview Athletic Complex in North Augusta in the first round of the District 4 tournament.
The other half of the bracket has Region 1 runner-up Abbeville playing host to Blacksburg, the third-place finisher in Region 2.
Either way, the Knights will travel for their round two contest. Since NC will hold its prom on Saturday, the game at either Abbeville or Blacksburg will be played in the late morning or near noon on Saturday.


Softball

Camden: The Lady Bulldogs, the fourth-place finisher in Region 6-AAA, will travel to meet Region 5 champion Chapin Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the first round of the District 5 tournament.
The other half of the bracket has Region 6 runner-up Marlboro County playing host to Midland Valley, the third-place finisher in Region 5. That game will be played on Thursday.
Either way, the Lady Bulldogs will be on the road to meet either Marlboro County or Midland Valley in second round play. The date and time of the pairings are yet-to-be determined.

Lugoff-Elgin: The Lady Demons, the fourth-place finisher in Region 4-4A, will travel to meet Region 6 champion Carolina Forest tonight in a 7 p.m. game along the Grand Strand in the first round of the District 2 tournament.
The other half of the bracket has Region 6 runner-up Ashley Ridge playing host to Lexington, the third-place finisher in Region 5. That game will be played on Thursday.
Either way, the Lady Demons will be on the road to meet either Ashley Ridge or Lexington in second round play. The date and time of the pairings are yet-to-be determined.

North Central: The Lady Knights, the fourth-place finisher in Region 3-A, will travel to meet Region 6 champion Fox Creek tonight in a 5:30 p.m. game at Fox Creek High School in the first round of the District  4 tournament.
The other half of the bracket has Region 1 runner-up Ninety Six playing host to Southside Christian, the third-place finisher in Region 2. That game will be played on Thursday.
Either way, the Lady Knights will be on the road to meet either Ninety Six or Southside Christian in second round play. The game will be played on Friday at 6 p.m.
