Austin finds a new NFL home in Indy
Less than 10 days after being released by the Carolina Panthers, former Camden High School and Clemson University football standout Thomas Austin was signed by the Indianapolis Colts.The Colts signed the 6-foot-4, 310-pound center came to a free agent contract last Thursday and brought him into their pre-season camp in Anderson, Ind.This is the 26-year-old Austin’s fifth NFL franchise since his final game at Clemson University in the 2009 season.In 2012, Austin was signed by the Panthers after they lost Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil to his season-ending injury in the middle of the season after Austin was signed to the Panthers’ practice squad earlier in the year. Austin played in four games at guard and center for Carolina, starting at guard in the season-ending 44-38 win over the New Orleans Saints.Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Vikings in 2010, Austin was released on the final day of cuts by the Vikings. Weeks later, he signed on as a member of the New England Patriots’ practice squad.
