Former CHS standout signs with Carolina

It has been a circuitous trip, but former Camden High standout Thomas Austin is back in the Carolinas.The 6-foot-4, 303-pound Austin signed with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, taking the spot previously held by three-time Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil on the 53-man roster. Kalil suffered a season-ending foot injury in the Panthers’ 16-12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 7.The signing of Austin helps bolster Carolina’s depth at the center position.After having had a bye this past weekend, the Panthers host the Dallas Cowboys in a 1 p.m. game on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.This is Austin’s third NFL home this season. He started out with the Houston Texans, but did not play in the pre-season due to a leg injury.
