With Radio Control Racing (RCR) competitors coming in from as far away as California, this weekend projects to be a busy three days at the RC Pit Supercross in Lugoff. The facility, located at 460 Highway 601 South, celebrated its grand opening in November. With this weekend’s $10,000 Mega Bucks Nitro Challenge, the park should be alive with the sounds of radio-controlled vehicles making their way around the 1,120-foot track.Beginning with today’s practice session, which runs from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m., and closing with Sunday’s races, which hits the track at 10 a.m., some 200 entries will turn the largest track in the Southeast into the center of attention in RCR racing. Some of the cars can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour.“We have racers coming in from all over the country,” said track owner Tommy Granger Jr. “We have people coming in from California, Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio … they’re coming in from everywhere.”Not to be forgotten are four local entries.
