The second annual Battle of Camden Power Meet will be held at Camden High School’s Wellness Center on Saturday, Feb. 27 beginning at 10 a.m.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Special Olympics of Kershaw County and will include competitions in the following events: bench press, push pull and dead lift. In addition, there will be an exclusive novice division for first-time competitors.
The weight classes will be divided into men and women in the 114-, 123-, 132-, 148-, 165-, 181-, 198-, 220-, 242-, 249-, 275- and 308-pound divisions as well as a superheavyweight classification. Women will compete in the 97-, 105-, 114-, 123-, 132-, 148-, 165-, 181-, 198- pound and unlimited weight classes.
The age divisions will be men and women’s open, Teenage/Junior, Collegiate, Police/Firemen, Women’s Sub Masters and Masters, Special Olympian Category and a novice class for first-time wrestlers. All competitors must have a one-piece lifting suit or a wrestling singlet in order to compete.
There will be a mandatory rules briefing at 9:30 a.m. Standard power lifting rules apply and bench will be conducted with a pause.
Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each weight class while a best lifter award will be presented in all divisions which have three or more competitors.
The meet will be open to the first 60 lifters with those competitors under the age of 18 needing to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Any competitor who plans to try and set a state or national record at the meet is asked to get in contact with Coach Ron Blackmon.
The late entry fee is $85. There is a $65 crossover fee and late entry fees will apply. All Special Olympians will compete free of charge.
Spectators are invited to attend the charity meet for $5.
