Bowers, Hoke to play in all-star baseball games

While the Grand Strand is filled with sunbathers and vacationers at this time of year, a pair of recent Kershaw County graduates will spend this weekend in Myrtle Beach putting in a little work.Lugoff-Elgin’s Zac Bowers and Camden’s Grey Hoke, who both graduated from their respective high schools less than two weeks ago, were selected to play in the 2014 South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association North-South All-Star Games. The contests will be played on Friday through Sunday, June 14-16, at the Ripken Baseball Experience in Myrtle Beach. Bowers, who will play for the 4A/1A North All-Star team, and Hoke, who will play for the 3A/2A North squad, are two of only 32 players selected to play in the North-South portion of the weekend which will also have the South Carolina Select team playing against the select squad form North Carolina.Bowers, a right-handed pitcher who signed with Erskine College, had a 3-5 mound mark with a save while being on the short end of three decisions in which the Demons scored two or fewer runs.
