Having lost six of their final seven regular season games, Kershaw County Post 17 entered the state American Legion playoffs with a hitch in its giddy-up.But when the third-place finishers from League III left the playing field at Socastee High School Monday night, they were back to where they were prior to their struggles in the closing two-plus weeks of the season.Getting a leadoff home run from Broderick Gaither and a three-hit complete game gem from Zac Bowers, the 17ers opened the post-season with a 2-0 win over the Murrells Inlet Tides to kick off the best-of-five series.Game two was to have been played on Tuesday at American Legion Park in Camden with game three set for tonight at 7 p.m. at Socastee High School. Should a game four and/or a fifth game be necessary, they would be played in Camden and on the Grand Strand on Thursday and Friday nights, respectively.“It feels good to get that first one,” said KC head coach Craig Smith after his team’s third win by shutout this season. “This game was what we have done all year in the games which, up to this point, that we have been successful in.
