While not on the original schedule, the Camden High wrestling team snuck in a post-Christmas duals tournament in Airport and scored several impressive wins there en route to a third-place finish. The Bulldogs built on their successful showing in West Columbia with a 66-12 victory over visiting Camden Military Academy in a Tuesday night match held inside the Camden High Wellness Center. The one-sided affair served as a tune-up for Joey Hendrix’s 14th ranked squad (per as they headed to A.C. Flora for Wednesday night’s Region 4-AAA opener in a tri-match which also included conference foe Dreher. The Dogs swept Wednesday’s two matches thumping A.C. Flora, 59-9, before handling Dreher, 45-27.“The biggest thing that we’re trying to do right now,” Hendrix said following his team’s win over CMA, “is to get ready for our region schedule. That’s what we’re preparing for.”On Tuesday, the Bulldogs (11-6) scored pins in 10 of the 12 matches which were wrestled with half of those coming in the first period. Both Spartan wins came via pin in a rapidly paced contest.“I was expecting us to compete well and use more of our technique tonight,” Hendrix said of his goals for his team’s first pairing of the new year.
