Abbott named to AAA All-State baseball squad

Camden High junior pitcher/infielder Tate Abbott has been named to the 2019 AAA All-State baseball team as selected by the South Carolina High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Abbott led the Bulldogs (19-14), who played their way into the AAA Upper State championship tournament, with 42 strikeouts and 47 innings pitched. His five wins tied the right-hander for the team lead while his 2.38 earned run average was good for third on the squad among pitchers who threw more than 28 innings this past season.

At the plate, the lefty swinging Abbott led Denny Beckley’s squad with 19 runs scored and tied for first with 20 walks. He was second on the squad with three triples and tied for second in hits with 26. He was third on the team with five doubles and tied for third with 18 singles. His .295 batting average was good for fourth on the Region 4-AAA runners-up.
