Their playoff position locked and secured, Camden is hoping to use its three-game week as a springboard for success as they prepare for next week’s AAA state baseball playoffs. The Bulldogs, who in all likelihood, will travel to meet Region 2 champion Eastside in next Thursday’s state tourney opener, took their second straight game and won for the third time in their last four outings with a 15-1 blowout of Westwood on Tuesday. The victory, in a game stopped after five frames by the 10-run rule, gave Denny Beckley’s squad a 4-5 mark in Region 4-AAA heading into Thursday’s conference and regular season finale with Chapin. In overwhelming the first year Red Hawks for the second time this season, the Bulldog boss said he was proud of the way his young squad took care of business in Columbia.“They are really, really young and have a lot of inexperienced players,” Beckley said of Curtis Johnson’s squad. “But I also really like the way we’ve been playing recently, too. We didn’t have any errors in this game and, we’re pitching real well.”Tuesday night, it was Austen Haney’s turn to have a strong night on the mound, in spite of his not having his best stuff.
