CHS girls soar past Hawks, 59-36
CAMDENS TREANA PERRY (10) and Brooke Dixon tied up Westwood guard Morgan Brit in action from Fridays game.
Coming off a one-sided loss to powerful Dreher three nights earlier, Camden girls’ basketball coach Natalie Jeffcoat was interested to see how her team would respond with soon-to-be 4A entry Westwood in town for a rainy Friday night contest. You might say Jeffcoat enjoyed what she saw as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-2 in Region 4-AAA play with a 59-36 win over the Redhawks in a game which was not as close as the final score might indicate.Camden led at every juncture and used a 28-14 third quarter run to put this one away early in carrying a commanding 52-25 lead into the final eight minutes. There was a lot for Jeffcoat to like against a taller Redhawk squad which featured 5-foot-11 center Kayla Atkins. Camden was able to take Atkins out of the game on the defensive end by the Lady Bulldogs’ front line of Nikki Lee, Quasha Jefferson and Audria Brooks beating the WHS defense down the floor. Once the Lady Bulldogs established offensive position near the basket, guards Treana Perry, Sharneece Gary and Brooke Dixon did a good job in feeding the post players for easy baskets.“I thought in the first half that we did a really good job of pushing the tempo,” Jeffcoat said.
