CHS sweeps multi-team track meet

Camden outscored both Great Falls and McBee to win their third girls’ track meet of the season in a meet held at the Camden High Athletic Complex last Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs finished with 72 points.

The hostesses took first place in both the 4 x 400- and 4 x 800-meter relays in what played out to be two very exciting races with times of 4:35 and 11:28, respectively. CHS received strong performances from Caroline Woolard, Abby McLaughlin, Kadrea Ferguson, Deniah Arthur, Staci Sumpter, and Heather Woolard in the two races.

Other strong performers for Camden were Alesia Davis for the 400-meter hurdles (1:24) and 100-meter hurdles (20.06). Kentrell Salmond won both the discus (97-10) and shot put (26-10) while and Tajz Bradley ran the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.54.

In the distance events Megan Goodrich took first in the 3,200-meter run (14:01) and second in the 1,600-meter run (6:24) while Stephanie Areford placed first in the 1,600-meter run (6:23). Darlasia Salmond won in the 400-meter dash (1:02) followed by teammate Staci Sumpter with a time of 1:09.

The Camden boys made it a sweep as Emet Reyes’ squad scored 109 points to defeat Great Falls, McBee and Camden Military Academy.

In field events, Dylan Reyes placed first in discus for the hosts with a throw of 108-2 while finishing second in the shot put at 34-2. Camden’s Trey Watkins won the shot put with a heave of 36-4. Omar Mingo leaped to victory in the triple jump (40'11) and was third in the high jump (5-2). Welton Cauthen was second in the high jump as he cleared the bar at 5-8.

Garrett Lawson had a good night in taking first place in the 1,600-meter run (5:15) and second in the 3,200 meter run (11:44). Carlos Williams won the 200-meter race (23.4) and was second at 400 meters while Cauthen’s 11.53 time was good for second in the 100-meter dash. The meet ended with The Dogs ran off with the evening-closing 4 x 400-meter relay as Williams, Kobe Little, Mingo and Ben Hayes were clocked at 3:47.

CHS returns to the track when the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs travel to a meet hosted by 4A Blythewood on Wednesday, April 8.
