Dogs clamp down on Westwood in 41-25 win
CHS now 2-2 in Region 4-AAA
CAMDENS JOSH SUMPTER DRIVES past Westwoods Solomon Walden as the Bulldog junior guard heads to the basket in Tuesdays Region 4-AAA victory on Mike Culp Court.
Rather than subject his team to the confines of the gym for practice on a sunny Sunday afternoon, Camden High basketball coach Ron McKie took his squad to the school’s adjoining athletic complex to work out in the great outdoors. But instead of a basketball and a hoop, the Bulldog boss had his players participate in a game which McKie called “Nerf Frisbee basketball” in preparation for Tuesday’s pairing with Westwood. At times, McKie said, the game resembled football.Sunday’s practice carried over into Tuesday as the Dogs upended the visiting Red Hawks on the hardwood in a score which more closely resembled that of a game in the gridiron with the hosts coming away with a 41-25 win. And, Camden appeared to be in a prevent defense, holding the guests without a field goal for the final nine minutes of the contest. The victory was the second in a row for McKie and company which evened their Region 4-AAA mark at 2-2.
