Dogs fail to finish job in 28-21 loss to LR
CHS DEFENSIVE END Welton Cauthen helps bring down Lower Richland tailback DAndre Smith following a short gain in action from Fridays game at Zemp Stadium.
Through the season’s first seven games, Camden has been the ultimate escape artist thanks to getting three of its five victories by three points or less.Friday night, there was no magic left in the Bulldogs’ hat.A series of missed chances combined with mental and physical errors helped do the Dogs in as visiting Lower Richland ruined homecoming at Zemp Stadium and returned to Hopkins with a 28-21 Region 4-AAA victory. Both sides now sport 1-1 conference ledgers in a circuit in which, after two weeks, has just one unbeaten left in Chapin.Camden (5-2) dominated time of possession and yardage in the first half of this game, running 48 plays for 251 yards before the break, while LR (4-3) ran just 19 plays for 125 yards in the opening 24 minutes of a game in which the hosts carried a 21-20 lead into the locker room at intermission. The intangibles, however, were stacked up on the side of the visitors. The Diamond Hornets scored on a blocked punt in the second quarter, a safety in the game’s waning minutes while turning Camden back on a pair of fourth down tries deep inside LR territory in the second half.
