It used to be, a game with A.C. Flora meant plenty of playing time for the Camden second- and third-teamers while the starters, would sometimes watch the second half proceedings sans shoulder pads.Well, things have changed considerably in Forest Acres. The Falcon squad which comes into Zemp Stadium for tonight’s Region 4-AAA opener bears no resemblance to the A.C. Flora squads of the past which were virtual locks to give up 40 or more points and had teams calling off the dogs early in the second half.Under fourth-year head coach Dean Howell, ACF has won 26 games since the start of the 2010 season. A year ago, the Falcons went 12-2, losing to Bluffton in the AAA Lower State championship game.Count Camden head coach Jimmy Neal among those who are impressed with Howell’s reconstruction job at Flora.“It’s not the A.C. Flora team that we used to know, at all,” said Neal, who last coached against Flora in 2007. “They have really good skill people and nice-looking linemen; you can tell they’ve been in the weight room.
