Dreher takes down Dogs in battle for third place, 4-3
CAMDEN CATCHER NICK TUCKER prepares to throw to second base while Dreher batter Harris Courson moves out of the way in action from Friday nights game at American Legion Park in Camden.
It would have been an uphill climb for Camden to have leapfrogged Dreher and finish in third place in the Region 4-AAA baseball standings. That fact did not make the Bulldogs’ 4-3 loss to visiting Dreher on Friday night any easier for Camden to take.In falling to 3-5 in league play with two games left, Denny Beckley’s troops allowed three unearned runs in the third. All four of the Blue Devils’ runs came with two outs, which made a tough-luck losing pitcher out of Grey Hoke. With the victory and a sweep of its series with Camden included, Dreher locked down the third spot in the circuit’s standings with a 6-2 record. With league-leaders Chapin and A.C. Flora on deck this weekend, the guests understood the importance of Friday’s game at American Legion Park.Coming off what Beckley said was his team’s best performance of the season in Wednesday’s 9-1 win over Hartsville, this game was particularly puzzling to him since the Dogs committed three errors in the first four frames, were unable to advance a runner by not being able to get a bunt down and then, not making contact on a hit and run.
