Welcome home.

After having opened their season with four straight road matches, the Camden High girls’ soccer team played their first home game and celebrated it with a 2-1 win over Heathwood Hall on Thursday night at soggy Zemp Stadium.

Following a scoreless first half of play, Camden’s Serena Hayes took a pass from Brooke Galdeen from outside the box, beat a Heathwood defender and sent home the night’s first goal.

The visiting Highlanders kept the pressure on the Lady Bulldog (2-3) defense but to no avail as goalkeeper Riley Shelbourne continued to keep the shutout intact.

But the guests would take advantage of a defensive lapse by Camden to even things midway in the second half.

Minutes later, Camden freshman Daysha Ellis gained control of a loose ball which was tipped by teammate Venus Sumpter near the far post of the goal mouth and drilled home for the game-winner.
