CAMDEN'S MICHAEL JAMES DRIVES to the basket during Friday's loss to A.C. Flora.
In preparation for Friday night’s visit from A.C. Flora, Camden head coach Ron McKie put his starting five to work by trying to break the Falcons’ press which was set up by his second group. The Bulldog starters struggled in breaking the scheme on Thursday and, one night later, fared none-too-well in what turned out to be a 63-48 loss to the Falcons in the Region 4-AAA opener for both teams. One thing which Camden could ill afford to do in this game was to get unnerved by the guests’ pressure defense and get off to a slow start against the bigger, more physical Falcons. When the Dogs started the night in a 5-0 hole after the first five and a half minutes of play, it became a nightmare scenario for McKie and company.“We worked on beating the press all day (Thursday) in practice and, we struggled to beat our second team,” McKie said of his team’s problems working against the press. “I told our guys, ‘You’re struggling now and you’re going to play A.C. Flora’s first team.“It showed.
