It had been 26 years between state football championships and Camden High and its fans were more than ready for another trophy to be added to the case along the first five the Bulldogs had won. A promising 1989 campaign ended in a mistake-filled 17-14 loss at Seneca in the second round of the AAA state playoffs. That CHS team, which finished with an 11-2 record, had seemingly everything needed for a run to Williams-Brice; a large and experienced offensive line, speed to burn at the skill positions, a 1,000-yard tailback and a load of senior leadership which was the motivating force for Billy Ammons’ squad.
