LR scores final 30 points to get past Bulldogs, 44-20
CAMDEN LINEBACKER JACE STUKES (44) helps in bringing down LRS Heath Gilmore after a short gain during Fridays contest in Hopkins.
HOPKINS --- When the clean-up crew gets to the visitors’ locker room at Lower Richland High School, there is a good chance they may find some items left behind by the Camden football team from halftime of Friday night’s game.Among the things which the Bulldogs did not bring with them for the second half of their 44-20 loss to the host Diamond Hornets were, in no particular order, offensive rhythm, an opportunistic defense and, most importantly, the lead.Carrying a 20-14 advantage into the extended intermission for LR’s homecoming festivities, Camden managed just 128 second half yards, turned the ball over three times, and had two slip-ups on defense which allowed the hosts to rattle off the final 30 points of the evening. The loss dropped Jimmy Neal’s troops to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in Region 4-AAA play. The Dogs will now have to win, at least, two of their final three regular season games to have a shot at returning to the post-season. The win was the third of the season and second in a row for first-year head coach Daryl Page’s squad which is 2-0 in conference play.“It’s one of those things where we played good in the first half then …,” Neal said following the setback.
