In trying to possibly avoid getting into the same bracket as defending state champion Hilton Head, Airport, reportedly, used an intentional own goal in a win over Dreher which sent the Eagles to Camden for Monday’s first round AAA state girls’ playoff match. The strategy nearly backfired as Camden used a late first half goal to carry a 1-0 halftime lead into the locker room at Zemp Stadium. But after having been thwarted for the first 45-plus minutes of the contest, Alli Mims put her team on her shoulders. The two-time All-State selection broke loose for two goals in a span of 17 minutes to give the visitors a 2-1 victory over the four-time Region 6-AAA champions. The defeat marked the third time in as many years in which Airport has sent the Lady Bulldogs packing for the season.
