NHS edges Dogs; CHS girls cruise
JOSH COUNCIL POURED IN a season-best 23 points in Camdens one-point road loss to Newberry on Monday night.
When they first met some three weeks earlier in Camden, the CHS boys’ basketball team saw Newberry rally from a halftime deficit and use a 26-11 third-quarter run to pave the way for a 63-56 victory.Monday night, Camden kept the hosts Bulldogs in their sights, but could not even the count as Newberry edged Ron McKie’s troops, 71-70, in a contest which opened up a three-game week for Camden.The loss dropped the guests to 4-3 on the season.Junior guard Josh Council led Camden with a season-best 23 points. That was followed by 14 points from senior point guard Darelle Smith and 11 from senior forward Jamari Ferguson.Kaheem Praylow led all scorers with 27 points for the 12-1 winners.Lady Dogs roll: Camden completed a sweep of its two-game series with Newberry as the visiting Lady Bulldogs upended NHS, 39-29.CHS won the first meeting between the two sides, 43-19, in Camden.The win gave Natalie Jeffcoat’s charges a 5-2 record.Sophomore Quasha Jefferson led Camden with 14 points while classmate Sharneece Gary chipped in with eight.Camden will close out the non-region portion of its schedule tonight when the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs travel to McBee for a pair of games which were postponed from a scheduled Dec. 16 meeting. The girls’ game tips things off at 6 p.m.
