Smith's interetption preserves Dogs' 21-20 win

During the course of practice last week, Camden starting senior cornerback Clayton Mitchum was forced to miss two days due to illness. That opened the door for Darius “Pooh” Smith to get some reps at the position.Let’s just say it was time well spent in getting the sophomore ready for more playing time in preparation for Friday’s game with visiting Lakewood.With the Gators marching downfield for a go-ahead and, possibly, winning, score in a 21-20 game, Smith stepped in front of a Roderick Charles pass at his own 20 in the closing two minutes of play, to secure the Bulldogs’ second straight win and their first at Zemp Stadium in nearly a full calendar year.Smith’s first career pick was the fourth key second half plays for the Bulldogs who were outgained by the Gators, 376 to 143 total yards, while having three first half turnovers leading to a goose egg and a six-point deficit at intermission.“Clayton was sick this week and missed a bunch of practice,” said CHS head coach Jimmy Neal. “It’s an old adage that if you don’t get those reps, you don’t know everything that’s going on.
