Two-time state champs put an end to Bulldogs state tournament run

While a win Tuesday would not have changed anything from a loss to Chapin in the 2010 AAA state championship match, Camden High tennis coach Roger Smoak felt a lot better about his team’s chances at downing the Eagles in Camden than he may have about winning at a neutral site in Sumter two years ago.In that title pairing, Chapin was led by current USC freshman Kyle Koch. While his two younger brothers, Sean and Jeffrey, are still members of the Eagles’ squad, Chapin does not have the same firepower on this year’s squad as it did then. That fact made it even tougher for Smoak and company following Tuesday’s 4-2 loss to the two-time AAA state champions in the second round of the state tournament.“We sure wanted to win this one,” Smoak said.
