You would think that things will now start to get a bit easier for the Camden High tennis team. The Bulldogs completed a rugged first six matches with a 3-3 record following Thursday’s 4-3 loss to Wilson Hall, which swept the season series from Roger Smoak’s troops, both by identical scores.“I never remember having started the season against such tough opponents as we have this year. Five of our matches have been against very good teams,” Smoak said of an early season slate which has included Spring Valley, A.C. Flora, Irmo and Wilson Hall. All Smoak could do after the second loss to Wilson Hall in eight days was to tip his cap to the Cavaliers, who list only one senior on the roster.“They might be, potential-wise, the best young team that I’ve seen in my coaching career,” said the 41-year coaching veteran. “Right now, they can compete with any team in the Midlands.”Playing for the second time in as many days, following Wednesday’s 4-3 win at Irmo, the Dogs headed to Sumter and played their second match of nearly four hours in unseasonably warm conditions.
