Picking up where they left off a season ago, the Camden Military Academy junior varsity soccer team extended their win streak to 14 matches with a 5-0 win over Buford in last Thursday’s season opener. The Spartans won all 13 of their matches a year ago for head coach Mohsen Ferjani.CMA got off to a flying start in this match as Brian Guarino buried a low cross from Humberto Larrañaga in the eighth minute to give the visitors the lead for keeps. The Yellow Jackets tried to respond, but an organized and compact Spartan team proved tough to crack. CMA’s speedy attacking quartet of captain Jacob McGuire, David Hooton, Jake Harper and Guarino proved problematic for Buford, which gave up a second goal in the 17th minute, scored by McGuire after a perfect cross from the left wing. The Spartans increased their lead to 3-0 by hitting on a counter attack following a turnover near midfield, with midfielder Caleb Brady rolling a ball through the Yellow Jacket defense and beautifully finished by a very active Harper. The hosts came out of the intermission looking more comfortable than in the first half, but again they were exposed by CMA’s speed on the counter.
