Spartans pick up the pace by finishing fifth at Cheraw meet

As a coach, you look for improvement from your team from the first to second contest of the season.John Heflin is no different and last Tuesday, the Camden Military Academy cross country coach saw his team finish fifth out of nine squads in a meet hosted by Cheraw High School and run over the Cheraw Fish Hatchery course.In their first meet of the season, the Spartans took 13th place in the Skyhawk Invitational hosted by Hammond six day earlier in Columbia.CMA finished the meet with 132 points. Cheraw led the way with 32 points followed by Darlington (57), The Governor’s School (80) and Hartsville (119) rounding out the top four.The top finisher for CMA was sophomore Tyler Van Buitenen, who came in 12th out of 108 runners in a time of 20:11. Senior Nestor Ruiz was 25th in a time of 21:22 while sophomore Simon Falk was 30th (22:09).Other finishers for CMA were senior Tripp Osteen (33, 22:41), sophomore David Hooton (41, 23:09), sophomore Cody Auberger (58, 24:55), sophomore Alexey Kuimov (65, 25:53), senior Robbie Hart (70, 26:40), junior John Davie (71, 26:41), sophomore Chris Witthar (203, 27:14), senior Jamar Arrindell (77, 27:20), junior Tanner Allison (78, 27:21), junior Mike Donovan (79, 27:23), senior Christian Trzanadel (81, 27:39) and sophomore Patrick Carty (86, 30:30).The Spartans will return to the course on today when they travel to Trinity Collegiate for a 5 p.m. meet.
