Spartans snap 20-game skid with 30-0 win
COLTON ROGERS FOUND his way into the end zone while picking off two passes for Camden Military Academy in Saturdays win over New Covenant Christian.
This was a bath which was nearly three years in the making.Shortly after his team’s 30-0 romp over visiting New Covenant Christian on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field, Camden Military Academy head football coach Will Rice was dumped with a bucket of ice cold water by members of his team. The ceremonial bath was the exclamation point on an afternoon in which CMA’s 20-game skid came to an end. The win was the first since the Spartans defeated Prince Avenue Prep, a school which no longer exists, to close out the 2010 season.Never had an ice bath on a late autumn day felt so good or in this case, maybe, not so refreshing.“It was freezing,” Rice said with a laugh while talking about the water bath. “It about took my breath away.”While the majority of the CMA players did not play for the school in either of the past two seasons, Rice said the first-year Spartans were anxious to get a win under their belt.
