Camden native Schofield plays in Super Bowl

O’Brien Schofield will be the third Camden native to play in the Super Bowl when he takes to the field at MetLife Stadium Sunday evening as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.The son of Camden natives --- former Camden High football standout Anthony Schofield, who played receiver for Billy Ammons’ Bulldogs from 1983 through 1985, and Kim (Carter) Schofield --- O’Brien Schofield was born in Camden in 1987 and continues to list Camden as his hometown. The family moved to Illinois and Schofield graduated from Community High School in North Chicago in 2005. He signed with the University of Wisconsin in 2005.Schofield follows Camden native and North Central graduate Tyronne Drakeford, who won a Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers as a rookie to conclude the 1994-95 season, and Camden native and Camden High graduate Bobby Engram --- Schofield’s cousin --- who was a member of the Seahawks’ 2005-06 squad which lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL in 2006 in playing in the game.Schofield is the nephew of Andre Carter, who quarterbacked Camden High to the 1990 AAA state football championship before signing and enjoying a college career as a defensive back at Clemson.Schofield is in his first season with Seattle after having been signed to a free agent contract in August following his being released from the Arizona Cardinals.
