Camden, NC play spring games Friday

Camden High School will close its spring football practice session with the annual Gold and Black Spring Game to be played Friday, May 17 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Zemp Stadium.

The team will be divided up into two squads --- Gold and Black --- and will play a condensed game. 

At 8 p.m., the third annual Camden High School football alumni flag football game will take place.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the gate to benefit the Sterling Felder Foundation which supports local youth sports. Commemorative T-shirts will be sold for $15 and a  concession stand will be in operation throughout the evening.

North Central spring game tips off day-long sportsfest: It will be a full afternoon and early evening of sports at North Central High School on Friday, May 17.

At 2 p.m., football fans can get a sneak peek at the 2019 Knights football team when the squad concludes spring practice with its spring game inside Knights Stadium.

At 3:30 p.m., the scene shifts to the softball field for the student vs. faculty softball game. At 5 p.m., those students sin attendance can participate in a softball home run hitting contest. The entry fee is $5 for six swings and 15 swings for $10. There will be a cash prize awarded for the most home runs hit in the event.

The day concludes at 5:30 p.m. with members of the Lady Knights 1999 class A state championship softball team facing an alumni softball squad.

The day of football and softball is being sponsored by the North Central High School softball team.

Junior American Legion baseball tryouts on deck: The Kershaw County Post 17 Junior American Legion team, which came up one game shy of playing in last year’s state tournament, will hold tryouts for its squad on Monday through Thursday, May 20-23, from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at American Legion Park in Camden.

The team will once again be under the direction of head coach Will Powers.

Tryouts for the Kershaw County Post 17 American Legion Senior baseball team began on Monday night and will continues through Wednesday at American Legion Park in Camden.

Tryouts fior the Post 17 senior squad will run from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. each night.
