Carmon to head up youth baseball camp

STEPHEN CARMON was promoted from the Eugene Emeralds to the Lake Elsinore Storm in the San Diego Padres system last summer.
Camden High School and the Kershaw County Recreation Department are presenting the Stephen Carmon Baseball Camp to be held on Sunday, Dec. 16 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at American Legion Park in Camden.In the event of inclement weather, the clinic will be moved to the gym at the old Continuous Learning Center on York St.The camp is open to boys and girls ages seven through 14 and will stress the fundamentals of the sport. The cost is $25 per camper. Carmon, who completed his first professional season as a member of the San Diego Padres organization will be the featured clinician and will be joined by members of the Camden Bulldogs’ baseball staff.Campers are asked to bring their own bat and glove and to be sure they are dressed properly with sweat pants and/or baseball pants along with warm clothes and need to bring tennis shoes, in case the clinic needs to be moved indoors.A former Camden High and Post 17 American Legion baseball standout, Carmon played his collegiate baseball at USC-Aiken and was a semifinalist for the 2012 Tino Martinez Award and was a College Baseball Lineup D-II All-Star Team selection.In June, he was selected in the 10th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Padres.
