Ditching the alibis, Kershaw County American Legion head coach Craig Smith got down to the nitty gritty in describing how his team lost both ends of a doubleheader in Cheraw last Thursday night.“Cheraw hit the ball and, we did not,” he said after his team fell to 9-6 with one game left in League III play.“The baseball gods were not good to us.”In winning 6-4 and 5-1 in a pair of seven inning contests, the hosts improved to 6-6 in League III. Cheraw will play four games this week starting with a Tuesday doubleheader at Manning-Santee along with single game with Hartsville and league champion Sumter. KC has a Tuesday game left at Sumter. In order for Cheraw to lock up second place, it must win all four of its games. Three wins and a KC loss will force a one-game playoff for second place. In the opener, the visitors from Post 17 got off to a good start, scoring two runs in top of the first as Broderick Gaither doubled to lead the game off.
