CHS 4 x 100-relay team third in AAA state meet

Led by a third place finish from its 4 x 100-meter relay team, the Camden High boys’ track team finished in 12th place at last weekend’s South Carolina High School League State Championships held at Lower Richland High School in Hopkins.The Bulldog quartet of junior Josh Sumpter, junior Jordan Sumpter, sophomore Michael James and senior Cedric Cook were clocked in 42.90 seconds to finish third behind Wilson in the 4 x 100-meter relay. The CHS foursome of Jordan Sumpter, junior George Randolph, senior Chris Pate and James then ran a personal-best time of 3:25.87 which was good for fifth in the 4 x 400-meter relay.Individually, Jordan Sumpter took fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.02 while Cook was sixth in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.47.The Camden girls received a seventh-place finish in the pole vault from sophomore Morgan Wilson, who cleared the bar at eight feet, six inches in last Friday night’s AAA event.North Central senior Clarence Williams finished seventh in the AA 100-meter dash with a time of 11.23. He then took eighth in the 200-meter dash posting a time of 23.04.Sophomore Quanisha Wright was fifth in the 400-meter run in the AA girls championship as she crossed the wire in a time of 1:05.34.Lugoff-Elgin’s lone qualifier for the 4A state championships was senior Brandon Brown, who was sixth in the high jump with a best leap of six feet, two inches on Saturday.
