CHS girls storm back to overtake Lady Demons

If steam actually could come out of a person’s ears, then the smoke emanating from those of Natalie Jeffcoat could have steamed up half the windows in downtown Camden.Jeffcoat left the court at halftime of Friday’s game with visiting rival Lugoff-Elgin along with her Camden High squad. The former Lady Bulldog and USC standout was not what one would call pleased with the Lady Bulldogs’ play in trailing L-E, 21-15, at the break.Whatever was said in the locker room at halftime must have taken hold or, struck a nerve, as CHS rebounded from a disastrous first 16 minutes with a much better effort in the second half of what became a 43-32 Lady Bulldog victory on Mike Culp Court.Jeffcoat also took a page out of Culp’s --- her former high school coach --- playbook, using a stall which melted down nearly all the game’s final three and a half minutes to preserve what was a sloppy win which gave CHS a 3-1 record.A much more relaxed Jeffcoat later talked about what was said in the confines of her team’s locker room during the break.“I told them that we really had to settle down offensively,” she said. “We, kind of, were just throwing the ball at the basket, not shooting it.
