Clyde Jones to be inducted into T.L. Hanna Hall of Fame
Before he was an assistant coach on “The ’64 Team”, Clyde “Tubby” Jones was a standout football player at Boys High School --- now, T.L. Hanna High School --- in his native Anderson.On Friday night, prior to T.L. Hanna’s season-opening home football game with North Augusta, the Camden resident will join four other former T.L. Hanna standouts when he will be inducted into the T.L. Hanna High School Athletic Hall of Fame.In order to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, nominees must have secured at least 80 percent of the vote from the 11-person committee.Jones played football at Boys High School from 1947 through 1950.As an offensive lineman, he was awarded the team blocking trophy and served as a captain on the school’s 1950 state championship squad. By season’s end, Jones was named to the All-State, All-Southern and All-America teams. He was also selected to the 1950 Shrine Bowl squad, serving as a captain for the Palmetto State unit.Jones would earn a scholarship to the University of South Carolina and played for the Gamecocks from 1951 through 1954.
