County squads in pre-season tourney action this weekend

STEPHEN BURNHAM AND L-E will take on Sumter in Saturdays first round of the Lake Murray Classic.
The May Plant Credit Union Baseball Bash will usher in the 2012 pre-season tournament action for Kershaw County teams.The annual event opens tonight at North Central High School in Boonetown and will continue through next Thursday’s championship pairing.Tonight, the host Knights will take on Crestwood in a 6 p.m. start.Saturday will see five games being played at the Knights’ home park beginning at 9 a.m. when Lewisville meets North Central in a junior varsity contest. At 11 a.m., the jayvees from the Camden Military Academy and Lewisville will take to the field.A tripleheader of varsity games closes the opening weekend starting with Camden Military Academy and Lewisville, the third-ranked class A team in the state playing in the 1 p.m. game. Crestwood then faces Lewisville at 3 p.m. before CMA and Crestwood square off in the 5 p.m. finale.Demons open soccer campaign in Blythewood: The Lugoff-Elgin boys’ soccer team will get a head start on their season when the Demons make the short trip to Blythewood High School to play in the Sandhills Soccer Classic which begins tonight and continued through Sunday.Tonight, L-E meets the tourney host Bengals in a 6 p.m. match.Saturday, the Demons will meet White Knoll in the 9 a.m. opening contest before returning to the field at 3 p.m. to take on Aiken High School.The pairings for Sunday’s consolation and championship contests will be determined following the completion of Saturday’s matches.Diamond Demons ready for first pitch: The Lugoff-Elgin baseball team returns to the Lake Murray Classic baseball tournament which, again this season, will be played at various locations through the Midlands, including at L-E next week..The Demons have one game this weekend and that is set for a noon start on Saturday against Sumter in a game to be played at Brookland-Cayce High School.
