Demons come out blazing in taking down Knights

Led by a trio of 20-point scorers, the Lugoff-Elgin boys’ basketball team kicked off the second season of the Garrett Knight era by knocking off visiting North Central, 90-42, on Tuesday night inside the Demons Den.

The loss spoiled the head coaching debut of NC’s Cary Phillips.

L-E freshmen Kevon Roberson and Bradwin Salmond joined senior Daniel Quattlebaum with 20-point nights while junior Vincent Stevenson added nine for the winners.

North Central senior Will Jenkins led all scorers with 22 points while pulling down a team-high six reounds.

The Demons jumped to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter before the Knights used a 21-point second quarter to close to within 33-26 at halftime. L-E carried a 58-40 advantage into the fourth quarter before the hosts’ depth took its toll on the guests as the Demons outscored the visitors, 32-2, in the final stanza of play.

In addition to Will Jenkins, his brother, freshman Jeremiah Jenkins, added eight points while Zach Jones and Jay Parks had seven and five points for the Knights.

On Wednesday, North Central slipped to 0-2 on the season with a 70-40 loss to visiting Lewisville.


Lady Knights open with victories:

The Lady Knights of North Central kicked off their season in style by downing in-county rival Lugoff-Elgin, 43-35, on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, Mitch Lowder’s girls improved to 2-0 with a 38-30 win over Lewisville.
