Demons knock off Bearcats

Opening Wednesday’s four-team wrestling match at Rock Hill High School with a loss to Indian Land may have been just the wake-up call which Lugoff-Elgin needed. The Demons rebounded from the defeat at the hands of the Warriors by taking down defending 5A state champion and top-ranked Rock Hill, 36-34, before closing the night by drubbing North Gaston (N.C.), 65-11 to improve to 5-1 on the season. Indian Land, the second-ranked team in class AAA, handed Ted Monroe’s charges a 34-24 loss in the opening pairing in a contest in which the Warriors jumped to a 21-0 lead before senior Hunter Mathis got the Demons on the scoreboard with a decision victory.
