For all its success on the mat, the one tournament which was a thorn in Lugoff-Elgin’s side was the Honey Badger tournament. Two weekends ago, Demon senior Devin Wilson took care of that problem as he became the first L-E wrestler to win a title at the prestigious preseason tournament held at St. Stephen’s High School in Hickory, N.C. Wrestling in the 132 pound weight class, Wilson defeated the defending 5A state champion from Fort Dorchester High School in the semifinals before beating the reigning state champion from the state of North Carolina in the finals. Wilson, who missed most of the Demons’ 2016-17 campaign with an injury suffered in the early part of the season, was one of three L-E wrestlers who advanced to the finals’ bracket.
