After some confusion after the compilation of the team scores from Monday’s Kershaw County Track and Field championships held at Camden High, the host Bulldogs were declared winners of the boys’ title after it was originally announced that Lugoff-Elgin had won the championship. It was the L-E coaches who noticed the error while reviewing the scores and notified the CHS coaches later that evening to correct the mistake. The one-point difference made the Bulldogs a 72-71 winner over L-E with North Central third with 31 points in a meet which was decided by the 4 x 400-meter relay, the final event of the night. The CHS coaching staff said L-E’s catching the scoring error and then, bringing it to the host school’s attention was a “gracious display of sportsmanship” on the part of Demons’ head coach Tim Davis. Davis refused to take any praise for the gesture.“It was the right thing to do,” Davis said.
