When Dawalan charged to the front of the pack and went on to a 5 ¼-length victory in the $100,000 Marion DuPont Scott Colonial Cup in Camden last November, it sewed up the National Steeplechase Association’s Lonesome Glory Award as the circuit’s top earner for the season. The impressive victory also all but clinched a berth as a finalist for the 2015 Eclipse Award for Steeplechase Horse for Irv Naylor’s then-5-year-old French-bred gelding. On Wednesday, Dawalan was among the three top vote getters in the jump racing division for racing’s biggest yearly honor as the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters (NTWAB) announced the finalists for the 2015 Eclipse Awards, recognizing excellence in Thoroughbred racing.
