There are times during a race when you find out what your horse is made of.For Black Jack Blues, his “Let’s see how you like this” moment came with less than five fences left in Saturday’s 80th running of the $50,000 Carolina Cup Steeplechase (Gr. III). Going down the backside of the Springdale Race Course for the final time in the 2 ¼-mile chase, Carl Rafter brought Country Cousin alongside the 2011 Eclipse Award winner which, in his first two races on this side of the Atlantic, never trailed any of his competitors.
