Boyd, Brunello take second in $100,000 Derby Finals

Camden’s Liza Towell Boyd rode Brunello to second place in the $100,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals, which was the final event of the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington last month.The title was won by Jennifer Alfano aboard Jersey Boy.The winners posted a score of 588.250 points while Boyd and Brunello finished with 588.000. Taking 14th place with a score of 506.250 was Camden’s Hardin Towell, who was in the saddle aboard Yes Indeed.Staged before a packed crowd at the Rolex Arena, the show closed out the 2011-12 International Hunter Derby Series. The final came after a year-long qualifying period which included a record 95 entrants with the top 30 competing in the season finale.After Alfano took the lead from eventual third-place finishers Scott Stewart on Garfield in the second and final round, Boyd brought Brunello into the show ring.
